Asystole in the Most Stable Rhythm- Albino Blackbear

blogabout
A Canadian emergency/arctic outpost nurse ventures into the unknown of medical school in Ireland. This blog is a mixture of medical (mis)adventures and a glimpse into the life of a medical student who knows the system, from the inside out.

blogliving
When I am not in medical school I work as a travel nurse, mostly in rural emergency departments on the West Coast of Canada.

whystartblog
Initially I had a blog that was a mix of medical stories, skiing, climbing, biking trips, recipes, and other random ramblings.

The medical stories stared getting a lot of attention so I thought it’d be nice for readers only interested in the medical side of things, if I made 2 blogs–one devoted solely to health care related issues.

I started “Asystole” the say that I started studying for the MCAT (the medical college admissions test) as a way to document my journey into medical school.

howlongblog
Since June of 2008.

howmany
Right now the number is typically just over 100 per day.

income
I have a very small income from 2 ads that run on the sidebar. It’s not a goal of mine to make big advertising money.

It’s great that I was approached to make a bit of extra cash but I don’t actively seek out money making opportunities for my blog.

interestedblog
Mostly nurses, doctors, people who are interested in going to medical school, or others in medical school.

Also, many people without medical/nursing backgrounds seem to have an interest in medical literature. It’s real life stories about things that happen in emergency situations.

howlongday
About 1 hour.

whysubscribeblog
I’ve been told that I write well and tell a good story. Most of my medical writings are of very intense medical emergencies that have happened in the Canadian Arctic or emergency departments in Western Canada. I try and give funny anecdotes regarding life as a medical student and living in a foreign country.

I love writing and sharing the stories from work that have deeply affected me. I think it gives readers some insight into the way Emergency work really unfolds and how it affects the front line workers.

whatadvicebloggers
Write as often as possible.

Seek out blogs you enjoy and try to pinpoint what it is that interests you enough that you go back everyday to see what they’ve written.

Be real. Write about your fears and joys and what excites you.
