After about 3000 bars of tiny hotel soap, I turned in the uniform of a commercial airline captain for a federal badge, armed with little more than nerve, a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice and enough dog biscuits to keep my black lab happy when I’m on the road. Skywritings is about memories of the life I left behind, as I fly to new destinations in my life, destinations that have been more fulfilling than I’d imagined.

I’ll always consider myself a pilot first. It’s probably the one thing I am most proud of as when I started flying in the late 70’s women were few and far between in the field.
But my Mom was a LEO and there’s part of me that knows she’s looking down on me, proud.

I finally was at the point in my life that I actually had free time, and the creative instinct has been as much a part of me as that persuasive odor of jet fuel that I just can’t get out of my favorite coat.

Two years

I’ve had as many as 500, but the average is 210-350 a day

No, it’s simply for my own expression

Pilots, would be pilots, women in careers that aren’t typical, and anyone that refuses to believe they can’t pursue a dream because they’re not rich or connected.

About an hour to an hour and a half every morning, usually before the sun comes up.

Redheads, guns, airplanes, boats and cars. With the occassional shot of homemade Beef Wellington. What’s not to like.

Write as if you don’t care if anyone reads it. And don’t stay glued to your site meter. The posts I liked the most were not my most widely commented or read, and some that had the most positive response I threw together some night in 20 minutes when I couldn’t sleep. But if I don’t have anything to say, I don’t prattle on about my laundry or my lunch just to fill up space. I’d rather read someone that had a touching or hilarious piece once or twice a week.

I liked your writing very much. I grew up in Alaska and retired from FAA there; Supv. Electronics Tech. I have my Alaska Drivers Lic, ASEL/S. I will start reading your site often. I found it on a Submarine web site.

This is truly a fantastic blog with excellent writing and a wonderful person. Alas, my kiss of death … it seems that everything I like, goes away. It doesn’t matter if it’s shampoo or a restaurant; as soon as I discover it … it’s discontinued, closes up or simply goes away. I only discovered Scully a few short weeks ago and now I understand she is considering closing shop at the insistence of a friend. I just don’t get it.

I felt so guilty as a guy that I was almost ready to get you a baby grand piano but I don’t know where to ship it to for you. Your writing is wonderful. What author name do I look for when your book comes out. Please do it soon as I am an old guy.

I miss her already! Please come back in some form, Scully, and let me know where. At Live Journal you can write your blog and only those on your approved friend’s list can see it, if that would tempt you at all? *hopeful*
