The Gadabout is devoted to pop cultural criticism (music, television, comics & movies, primarily), sporadic flighty thoughts – plus the occasional egocentric socio/political commentary by its fifty-something blogger.

For my day job, I work in the social services field – and do some free-lance writing on the side. Blogging is a way to keep me writing even when my lazy-ass self sez I should be relaxing in front of the tube . . .

I’m an inveterate pop-culture nerd who will chat about this stuff forever if you let me. This is one way of shielding my friends and co-workers from my obsessions.

Though I’d made some earlier stabs at bloggish criticism, the Gadabout officially started in March 2002.

At its peak, the Gadabout has received around 200 per day; currently, it’s about half that amount.

Currently, the blog is not generating any income.

Fellow pop culture nerds; dog lovers (I post a pic on the weekends); geeky baby boomers with a vaguely progressive philosophy.

1 – 2 hours

When it’s cooking, it manages to touch on a good variety of past and current pop culture material.

If I knew the tricks to blog success, I’d probably have a higher and more consistent hit count. My biggest advice is to write often and try to write consistently.
