A blog for passing time, and passing messages about media, about media ecology which is the study of media environments, about language and symbols, about technology, about communication, about consciousness, about culture, about life and the universe, about everything and nothing, about time…

I am a Professor of Communication and Media Studies at Fordham University in New York City, and also Executive Director of the Institute of General Semantics.

The blog gave me a way to get ideas out to the public in a fairly direct manner, supplementing my more formal print publications, and the more limited reach of teaching classes directly.

My first post was March 8, 2007.

A couple of hundred I believe. I’m not really concerned with numbers, I’m an educator not an entertainer.

I set up that Amazon Associates, but haven’t gotten anything out of it. I don’t see the blog as a business, except insofar as all online activity can be seen as “advertisements for myself” to borrow the phrase from Norman Mailer.

People interesting in understanding media and communication, primarily, also interested in education, and intellectual development.

I don’t post everyday. Most of my posts take several hours to compose, which is mostly about the writing. A quick post, of a video for example, might take less than an hour.

My blog provides new ways of looking at and understand the media environment we live in, including the new media and social media, and more generally about life, the universe, and everything.

Write about what interests you, what irritates you, and above all, write from the heart–but don’t lose your head!
