The Angry Lab Rat is a blog devoted to the oddities of recent science news (from astronomy to zoology, medicine to technology, evolution to “intelligent” design), personal views of working in biotech, and cheeky insights into my bizarre brain.

By day, I’m a respectable scientist working for a not so respectable global biotech company. By night I am an evil blogger. Mwa ha ha ha ha!

I was going through a bad stint at work — hating it! It was starting to affect my love of science. So I started writing this blog every other day or so, using it as a vehicle to find science news that was entertaining and even funny, and occasionally using the blog to vent about the evils of my heartless yet oddly innovative biotech company. It worked. I’m happier when I’m writing. But I’m still and angry rodent!

I published my first post back in December of 2006.

According to this Blog Tracker (http://tracker.icerocket.com/project.info.php?pid=3809&rid=rfr&), I got 70 visits and some 85 hits. A pretty typical day.

No income. I don’t do ads. No one pays me. I’d love to get paid for it, but really it’s just for fun. Why spoil the fun by involving money?

If you’re interested in science and humor, my blog is for you, but you don’t have to be a scientist to read it. In fact, most of my readers are non-scientists.

I only publish every other day or so (though recently I took a break for a couple weeks due to changes in my day job), but I’d say I spend about 30 minutes a night on it. I’m a quick writer, and there is no shortage of things to blog about. If I could find the time, I’d write much more often. I also read other folk’s blogs each night.

The natural world around us and our own innovativeness are far more complex and bizarre than we give credit for. Being eaten by fish on purpose, mud volcanoes, protecting bridges with flavorings used in potato chips, odd inventions like the Beer Launcher — nature and technology provide plenty of good blog posts! It’s up to science to study this complexity, and it’s up to me to help you laugh at it!

First you have to figure out what “success” means to you. I’m just doing it for fun, and I’m enjoying myself and want to do more, so I guess I’m successful. Mainly, you have to keep at it, posting I mean. There is no shortage of stuff to blog about, and it’s amazing what people want to read. Hell, they even read ME!
