Do Christians believe we hold the truth? No, it holds us; we submit to it and to the One who gives it. We seek the truth to know it and follow it, that it may grip us tighter yet. This is a blog for seeking and exploring the truth.

I’m a strategic planner for a major Christian mission organization, which means I help many different people try to understand what it is they are really trying to accomplish, and how to know whether they are making progress. I also write for magazines and e-zines. Blogging is actually part of my work, but a minority of it.

I’ve been bitten by the writing bug. If you have it you’ll know what I mean: you have to write things down to feel satisfied with your day or your week. More than that, though, I have a strong conviction that Christianity can and should be handled thoughtfully. Christians need to think through the entire implications of what we believe, and those who disagree with Christian beliefs should be shown the thoughtful basis of the faith.

I started in October, 2004.

Currently about 900 unique visitors. (Caution: if you look this up on one of the public statistics counters, you’ll see a lower number. That’s because I can’t figure out a way for them to catch the visits via RSS feed.)

No income stream from the blog.

Anybody with an interested in learning, or debating, the beliefs of Christianity

I average about an hour or so, probably.

There are a lot of great blogs out there. What’s unique about this one–and I get a lot of feedback from both sides on this–is that we have really thoughtful, respectful debates on difficult issues that are worth thinking about.

Figure out first of all what success means to you. As a strategic planner, I’m bound to think of this first; but it’s really true. You have to set a direction, a vision or mission for your blog. If your purpose is to journal your life, then just do that and relax about what results you get. Don’t worry about links, visits, or other stats. But if you are looking for some widespread influence through what you write, then you must really concentrate on excellence of content. Check your spelling and grammar! Write about things that interest you. Organize your thoughts clearly. Post something substantive (not just a link list, in other words) at least once a week. Read other blogs. Participate in Carnivals and comment on other blogs to increase your blog’s visibility.
As you consider your blog’s purpose, don’t fail to consider the ultimate spiritual implications of what you present, for this is a major part of the way you present of yourself to the world.
