A social science approach to policy issues related to crime, criminals, and the criminal justice system.

I have been a university professor since 1987. Prior to that I was a police officer.

I discovered that a lot of uninformed discussion was occurring about crime control policies. Most media simply report the policy and include a few quotes from policy makers. I wanted to add to the dialogue by contributing what social scientists know about these issues.

I returned to a faculty role four years ago. I turned to blogging as a means to better inform my students and the public and as a way for me to think about these issues.

Difficult to say as I don’t blog every day, not do I look at the web counter every day.

No.

Anyone who want to be better informed about various crime control polices.

It varies. Some days, there is a target-rich environment – 2-3 stories peak my interest. And there are some days that are very slow.

Crime control policies impact all of us one way other another. For example, 5 states now spend more on prisons than they do higher education. So what do we receive in return? If you want to know, or want to find links to other resources, I encourage folks to subscribe to my blog.
