Roy’s World- Roy Hilbinger

blogabout
Roy’s World is pretty much that – a reflection of my world. Mostly it’s where I post my best photography, and most of that is nature photography. But I also do essays on things that interest me: Biblical Studies, general spirituality, music, and every once in a while I do movie reviews. So it’s pretty wide-ranging.

blogliving
At the moment I’m unemployed, but when I’m working I’m in retail sales. At the moment I’m trying to see if I can get any work as a photographer, and the blog is one of the places I send people to see what I do.

whystartblog
It’s a creative outlet. I have an account with Gather.com, and it was there that I discovered photo essays; I love telling the stories that go with the pictures, so the genre was a natural for me. Then I discovered that Blogger’s format gave me a lot more options for photo essay layout, so from there my main effort went into the blog.

howlongblog
I’ve actually had the blog since 2006, but I didn’t get serious about it until December of 2008, and really kicked up the activity in January of 2009. But if you look at this blog as an extension of my blog-like activity on Gather.com, I guess you could say I’ve been working seriously on this for 3 years (I started on Gather in March of 2007).

howmany
Sitemeter tells me I average 43 visits a day, and 64 page views per day.

income
I don’t use the blog per se for income. I’m not using Blogger’s AdSense to earn money from advertising; in fact, I hate ads on blog pages, and I use Firefox as my browser with Ad Block Plus up and running. But as far as using the blog as a reference for getting photography gigs, so far none of my prospective clients have mentioned it.

interestedblog
Nature lovers, music lovers, people who enjoy philosophical musings, photographers, people involved in non-aligned spirituality (at present I have a 2-part series on a new English version of the Tao Te Ching posted). Oh yeah, and people who are interested in 17th and 18th Century American gravestone carving (that’s an ongoing series I run from time to time).

howlongday
Two or three hours on average. It really depends on what I’m up to; if I have to wander through YouTube looking for just the right video(s), I could be on all afternoon or evening. But generally just a few hours.

whysubscribeblog
If you’re interested in good photography and the stories behind the pictures, Roy’s World is the place to come. If you have a sticky mind and like to pick up odd, offbeat tidbits of knowledge, then my blog is a place you’d enjoy spending some time with.

whatadvicebloggers
I have no idea what defines “success” in the blogging world. If it means making lots of money from a blog, I have no clue. If you want to reach a lot of people, I still really haven’t a clue. But if success is creative satisfaction, then my advice is to write about what pleases you and what you know the best.

  1. roy’s world in an excellent place to wander around in!! his photographs are stunning and always inspiring….but, just how does he get all those birds to pose so nicely for him!!
    .-= mouse´s last blog ..little boxes =-.

  2. I’ve been following Roy’s blog for over a year, and he always has something interesting to say. Roy offers a wonderful view of east cost life (including its birds, which is my fav). I also like how Roy ties music into most of his posts… You’ll never be disappointed when you visit Roy’s World!

  3. If photographs can be thoughtful and contemplative, Roy’s are. He has an especial gift for pictures of water: I find myself gazing at them as if they were real. Every now and then, Roy lays his camera down and takes up his virtual pen to write some of the most erudite, intellectual entries in the blogosphere. Roy’s World is a treasure.
