What is Swaptree?
Swaptree is a website where users can trade books, DVDs, video game, or CDs,
with other users for free. On Swaptree, users list what they want and have,and our trade a then find all the people who want what they have, and have
what they want. Swaptree uses complicated algorithms to instantly find all 2
and 3 way trade algorithms the instant some one lists their items for trade.
We then show our users all the items they can get in return for their item,
which because of 3 way trading, can be in the thousands.

The site is free, and users only pay for shipping. So our value proposition
is get the media you want for free.

Why did you all start the website?
After noticing that we frequently traded books with our friends, that our
nephews played a new $55 dollar video game for a week or so, and then never
again and that our shelves were full of CDs and DVDs that we would never
play again, we figured there had to be a better way to acquire the media we
wanted, using the media we already had.

What do you do for Swaptree?
I am VP of Marketing, but we all wear lots of hats. Lately I have been doing
a lot of testing.

How many people visit Swaptree every day? How many members do you have?
We have been in private beta for the past 6 months so we have limited the
number of people we have allowed into the site. The site is going live on
July 4th (this Wednesday) so we are excited to see what our growth rate is
once we actually allow people to sign up.

What kind of person would this website benefit?
It benefits anyone who buys books, CDs, DVDs or video games. Specifically
high school and college kids who buy a lot of media, not to mention
textbooks, and mothers, who are often in charge of the family media budget.
If anyone knows how expensive video games are it’s the mom whose forked over
the money, only to see her child tire of it 2 weeks later. With swaptree,
she can quickly trade it for the new ‘must have’ game for the cost of
shipping.

Why should we join?
Because its not only a great way to get the media you want for free, its
also a great way to discover new books, bands, movies, and video games you
might not otherwise have. So if you like the band Wilco, we can quickly show
you every other user that wants or has a Wilco CD, and what other bands they
want or are listening to.

What advice do you have for others trying to be successful on the
Internet?
Just get ready to work really hard.
