I’m a retired U.S. Marine living in the Philippines. Blogging is a new career choice that isn’t primarily about money. If I didn’t earn a cent, I’d still be doing it.

I blog about more than just the primary topics. A brief perusal of archive titles will give that away in an instant. I blog about what I like and that’s about it.

15 months with emphasis on the last 7 or 8 months. Before that, other issues were more important to me (my home, family, etc.). Once those issues were taken care of, I started focusing on the blog.

In the last month, the blog averaged more than 400 visitors per day. I really didn’t track it before then.

I recently dropped Google AdSense even though I made more than $100 from it this month — I didn’t like the obtrusive of the ads. I’m doing sponsored posts now which earn me just as much. I just started selling text link ads as well — only one taker so far.

New bloggers are generally the most interested and that’s probably because I support them more than established bloggers. Other readers are interested in some of the whackier stuff I’ve published in the past.

That depends on what you consider blogging. While the writing portion is probably no more than three or four hours per day, I spend 80 percent of my time at the computer doing something.

I’m brutally honest about anything I write about and I have nothing to hide. For example, I don’t like John Chow’s tactics and I wrote about it. (It inspired others to write about it as well).

Focus on content first and worry about success after you’ve got at least three to six months under your belt. Write on a consistent schedule, whether it’s once per day or once per week. Be honest in your opinions.
