If you’re one of those people who can find something funny about almost everything, regardless of whether or not the situation is appropriate for humor, then you might like my blog. Basically, I write about funny. Stuff I see, stuff that happens to me now, and stuff that happened to me growing up.

I am a slave for the man. No, this isn’t my job — it’s my release. Now instead of just laughing inside my head, I can share it with you all and laugh outside my head.

I started this blog on a dare. A bunch of people at work started blogs about 2 years ago. They poked and prodded and finally I started one too. They’re mostly dead now. Their blogs, not them.

I turned 2 in January.

Anywhere from 200-300. Most of them seem to be looking for information on Flava Flav & Delishis, or for information on how to use a butt plug. What is it with people, anyway?

I tried the adsense thing. I actually got a check for a hundred bucks after about 2 years. Needless to say, I’m not ready to quit my day job.

Anyone with a slightly irreverent sense of humor who doesn’t mind dropping the occasional f-bomb. It’s not all hilarious rants. Sometimes there are hilarious stories of my misspent youth. I had two brothers and tortured them mercilessly.

I blog a couple times a week, usually. Maybe an hour or so at a pop. I only blog when an idea strikes me or something funny happens. I’m not a fan of those blogs where there’s a daily update even if the only thing the blogger has to report is that they have nothing to report. boring.

You should subscribe to my blog because it’s hilarious, obviously. And if you like to laugh, you should start with my archives and work your way forward, I’m just saying. It’ll make more sense that way. But you’ll need a lot of time.

I guess you need to define the term “success” for this to be valid. If your goal is to amass a huge number of hits per day, that’s one thing. If your goal is to just blow off steam and maybe have some fun, that’s another. People blog for different reasons and one person’s particular version of success may be different than yours. I don’t do anything special to try to get more visitors. I probably should but who has time?

This IS a great blog! Truly. And I’m in the top 10 with him so trust me, I would not be handing out the compliments if they weren’t 100% true. Do yourselves a favor and check this fella out. I’ve already linked and voted for him.
August 2nd, 2007 - 6:00 pm

I’ll raise a glass to you even if I have to buy it myself. I voted for you again. Isn’t that illegal?
August 6th, 2007 - 10:30 pm
not in these parts! You can vote every 24 hours, I guess. It’s pretty funny, actually. This website is completely ad driven and probably actually making money already for the guy who set it up. I wish I had thought of it.
August 7th, 2007 - 12:49 am
Johnny, thanks for the kudos. Hopefully it will have an income eventually, but currently it’s in the red red red.
Once things get going and bloginterviewer has been around a few more months I’ll put up an interview discussing everything and everyone that went into the making and maintaining of it.
Thanks for supporting the site.
August 8th, 2007 - 4:02 am
I have been a reader for nearly a year now! Introduced his blog around my office and before I knew it, people not in our office but friends were sending me links to his blog that this is one guy to spend your morning with. Absolutely hilarious! Even the butt plug jokes evoke a smile…and that Santa Claus…I wonder what happened to him Johnny!
August 8th, 2007 - 4:24 pm
JV rules. I’m voting for him as often as the dead in Chicago who vote Democratic. Vote early and often!
August 8th, 2007 - 8:06 pm
thanks everyone!
August 12th, 2007 - 9:15 pm
Gutu says “we love Johnnie Virgil” and “we” means “I”.
August 16th, 2007 - 8:54 am
you guys rock. I can’t believe I’m still in the lead.
August 29th, 2007 - 10:53 am
I voted for you again, and enjoyed it. It’s a good idea. Can I do this in the 12008 presidential election?
September 1st, 2007 - 10:15 am
This is the LAST TIME I vote for JV.
September 1st, 2007 - 5:22 pm
Thanks Miriam. I just wanted to win once. I am pretty sure I did. So you don’t need to vote anymore.
September 18th, 2007 - 10:37 pm
Without wanting to win you’re in 5th place right now!
November 6th, 2007 - 12:34 pm
Hilarious!! However, don’t look now but the ’70’s are BACK!! If you don’t believe me, just check out some of the current catalogs (including JC Penney). How about those adorable baby doll tops, empire waistlines, poofy sleeves, and BRIGHT polyester prints!!? Sad, but true.
November 6th, 2007 - 1:35 pm

I am behind the rest of the world in understanding what blog means, but my friend sent me a link to the JCP catalog story and it left me in tears. I haven’t laughed so hard, alone, in a very long time. Thanks for a very bright spot in my day. I’ve got to find out more about this blogging thing…
November 7th, 2007 - 2:39 am
I was born in the late late 60’s and I remember alot of these outfits! Do you guys remember the bell bottoms? OMG…I think they might be coming back in style! Kim sent me this blog and I laughed just as hard as she did. I hate to admitt that I might have owned some of these clothes!
November 7th, 2007 - 2:07 pm
JV - Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! For making me laugh on this gloomy rainy moldy day in the Pacific NW. Marsha sent me your blog link. We’ve been friends for a long time, spent our teen years together in the mid 70’s. Talk about a flashback! Back-in-the-day we owned several pairs of bell bottoms & fluffy/puffy girlie tops too! I for one am happy they are back!
November 8th, 2007 - 8:01 am
Hi JV - just popped in to see the competition
Sadly, I have agree - I really love your blog! I even voted for you - lol
Way to go - anyone fancy a coffee? Jayne
November 8th, 2007 - 2:35 pm
My wife Kelli showed me your blog page and it is hillarious! My favorite by far is the belt buckles. But cow pasture fun is right behind it. Keep up your wonderfully weird life.
November 8th, 2007 - 7:02 pm
Hey, this guy’s GOOD!
November 8th, 2007 - 7:02 pm
Thank you, Steve M. You know who you are.
November 9th, 2007 - 2:18 pm
I simply can not believe the number of votes you’ve had, and so quickly too! Surely this must be a record?
Great blog - you deserve each and every one! And I’m thumbs upping again in awe
November 10th, 2007 - 1:27 pm
Good stuff - my most forwarded link of this week! You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll (nearly) pee your pants - not to mention coffee out of your nose - I’m just sayin’… ;^))
November 10th, 2007 - 6:27 pm
Wow! I wish I didn’t hate seafood.
Thanks, Jayne. You got me. Next week I’ll probably be back down to 200 hits a day.
November 10th, 2007 - 6:57 pm
I love it he’s great!
November 10th, 2007 - 7:23 pm
You can always choose a t-shirt if you don’t want the seafood.
November 11th, 2007 - 12:35 am
Man…you are funny! I love the 70’s….but am sad that flip flops made their rounds again…remember
Earth Shoes and “Konockers”( my favorite toy)…
Funny how noone enjoys talking about the 80’s…I can remember some hellacious styles then also..
November 14th, 2007 - 5:04 pm
GOD he makes me laugh and I love the way he writes.
November 19th, 2007 - 8:02 am
The only other blog that maks me this laugh much is “Manolo Loves the Shoes”. JV is a comic genius.
November 21st, 2007 - 5:13 pm
wow!! Amazing. The crabmeat is MINE! ALL MINE!
November 26th, 2007 - 12:22 pm
You are hilarious…My daughter sent me this link, likely recalling the J.C. Penny catalogues that were our Wish Books when she was growing up. Can’t believe we actually wore those things. If only I’d kept my day-glow velet bell bottoms with the swirling stars and wizard hats!
Couldn’t stop laughing while I was reading this. I hope your day job involves writing. I’m forwarding this to every other 60+ year old I know!
Keep it up.
Gerry
November 30th, 2007 - 8:44 pm
Wow, I wonder if that isn’t a record number of votes for a blog? JV, since recieving a link for the JCPenny post I’ve been totally hooked. Your archives are as much a time suck as ebay.
December 1st, 2007 - 12:41 pm
Just popped in to say CONGRATULATIONS!
An amazing amount of votes for an amazingly good blog - a well deserved 1st place I think!
Well done

December 2nd, 2007 - 11:31 am
Congrats on your first place finish! Great blog and I am in awe of your wonderful readership!
December 6th, 2007 - 2:46 pm
I have blown off work for almost two days catching up on the past blogs. I can’t help it, this site is like Heroin….. I can SO relate to ALL of your stories. I HAD one of those round radios, a banana seat bike, and I tortured my siblings…..ah memories. I fell as though I am re-living my childhood reading your stuff, (even though I am a girl…ex tom-boy). Plus I am a geek in sheeps clothing. Keep it up, you ROCK!
December 6th, 2007 - 11:02 pm
Hey thanks! Glad you’re diggin’ it!
December 10th, 2007 - 3:17 pm
I thought your blog was comical.I do remember those days and everybody wore styles like that.plus all the 70s sappy shows on tv.But the 70s were party years.Disco?
December 13th, 2007 - 7:41 pm
Hey JV, You’ve got a book in you guy! I’m working my way through your archives, currently finishing up 2005. I’m laughing and reminiscing and enjoying your wit and style all the way. Thanks!
December 14th, 2007 - 12:35 pm
Bill, ya think? If only….
Glad you’re enjoying it.
December 16th, 2007 - 10:16 pm
Hey..wait a sec…I actually HAVE one of those green spread wing collar shirts…AND it has giant french cuffs. Groovy man….best shirt…like EVER!
December 19th, 2007 - 9:42 pm
Hey! You know I just wanted to write and thank you for your blog on the Toxic tree…..I know it is dated a year ago but I just ran into the same problem you did….ie: spending lots of time hanging the lights without reading the warning then not washing my hands then pigging out on finger foods.
The thing is, the more information you look up……the scarier this stuff gets. You are the ONLY person I cross referenced with key words that wrote about not washing your hands and eating and you are so right…..it is not a matter of you “hope” you didn’t get any lead dust on you right? LOL I have to laugh because it is insane.
So then looking around on the internet, I read quite a few places that if a trace amount of this lead dust is ingested that you pretty much have it forever since the body can’t process it out…apparently remains dormant in your bones until it wants to pop out or the body becomes vulnerable in some way. Like you I find it absolutely ludicrous that you can hang up lights one time and possibly get lead poisoning…..it’s just not right.
So, since you seemed to do your homework as well at the time…….what did you opt to do with these lovely lights??? I mean who wants to take them down now right???? hahaha
December 20th, 2007 - 10:25 pm
I figured I already ate all the lead, so I just took them down and then had a sandwich.
December 21st, 2007 - 1:25 pm
I was just sent the link to your blob by a friend. You are hysterical. I loved it and it made my day. Thank you for writing.
December 22nd, 2007 - 9:51 pm
I am waiting for you young snippets to have a good laugh at the styles of the early 2000’s. You will really have a really really good laugh in about 15-20 years. At least our butts and boobs were covered and there still was a little modesty and morality left at that time. It was all the rage then and it was not just JCPenney’s that was contributing to the FADs of the day.
December 23rd, 2007 - 2:18 pm
Bill, you are so right. Fashion is always funny 30 years down the road. I still remember working my tan velour jacket and pants with the silk shirt and platform shoes in 8th grade. I was stylin’.
December 29th, 2007 - 9:41 pm
Hey JV, just popped in to see if you’ve been writing and when I see “No way,” The Snitch said….
I had to go and finding my reading glasses cause I know it’s gonna be good. And it was.
happy new year
January 1st, 2008 - 9:14 pm
Whoo hoo! Another $25 dollar gift certificate! Thanks for the votes everyone — you’re all invited to the clam bake. Although I haven’t seen last month’s gift certificate yet so the jury is still out on Giovanni’s!
January 7th, 2008 - 9:20 am
Holy crap!! This is one of the funniest things I have ever read. I don’t read blogs because mostly people are stupid and I don’t care what they think. Especially anyone to has the time to write about what they think on the internet. Nice to read in your interview that you don’t spend tons of time on this! But my sides hurt from laughing every time I catch up on a page. I am hooked…
February 22nd, 2008 - 5:33 pm
Glad to see you’ve won (again)! I stumbled upon your blog during a dull moment in my daily 9-5 grind & have been thoroughly entertained by your archives.
This is the fodder of a long-running sitcom. I am sure of it.
June 14th, 2008 - 5:03 am
Johnny Im Lilyruth and I just wanted to know if you ever got yur gift certificate? I never got mine nor did I ever get a t-shirt? I wrote these people and they said they sent them out already but Inever got a thing did you get yours? Id just like to know I wonder if you would send them a note and remind them if you never got yours this last time if you would inquire about if we are going to get our things.. Maybe if both of us send notes we will get them? its a shame I wanted so much to at least get the t-shirt with my blogs name on it, and picture. Please let me know if you got your things I still have not gotten a thing and it was my first time winning. http://dogcents.blogspot.com thanks
