Being severly affected by Ehlers Danlos Syndrome means I don’t work and rely on state benefits, hence the name for my blog, and inspiration behind it.

Benefitscroungingscum came from the popular opinion that people on state benefits are all work shy scroungers. I wanted to write about the true day to day reality of life for someone claiming state benefits.

At the moment about 9 or 10 people per day. I’m honestly amazed anyone would read my ramblings so I’m really excited and pleased by every person that visits, even more so by the comments.

No, my blog doesn’t have an income, I wouldn’t know where to start!

I’d hope all kinds of people would be interested in benefitscroungingscum, that’s sort of the point of the blog. I wanted to show by the way I try to live and things I write about that disability is just another part of every day life, with usually the biggest challenges not coming from an individual’s personal circumstances but the world around them, or other’s attitudes. It sounds so cliched, but I really believe the only way to change things is to talk, or in this case write about them, openly, honestly and hopefully amusingly, and that way people can see that whatever the disability, it’s just a part of what makes that person whole, and very quickly becomes something you’ll only occasionally notice, like say their blue eyes.
