Life with Parrots? What’s that like? Many people want a parrot but have no idea what it’s like to live with them. Writer Patricia Sund gives you a “perch-side view” of living with 3 African Grey parrots. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll probably decide that having a parrot is insanity. Patricia’s popular Column in “Bird Talk” Magazine is just one of the projects she has that involve her Parrots. “Parrot Nation” gives you a glimpse of a writer’s life with animals that actually talk back.

I’m a writer for “BIRD TALK” Magazine. I have a monthly column and write features. I also write for their website, “The Bird Channel.” This takes me to some interesting places on fun adventures like working as a Zoo Keeper at the Cincinnati Zoo for three weeks. It was a blast! One of my favorite responsibilities there was working with the penguins. This was one of the things I’ve written about at “Parrot Nation” and I have more “Adventures” coming up. Stay tuned.
When I’m not writing, or off I’m an International Flight Attendant for a major airline. To sum it up: I write, I fly, and I clean up parrot poop.

“Parrot Nation” is a nonfiction manuscript in progress that covers the world of Aviculture. I have about half of it completed. All that remains are the chapters needing research that involve getting on a plane. Since I’m on airplanes about 15 days a month, I loathe doing it on my days off. However, I have to get moving and finish the research whether I like it or not.
I worked at the Cincinnati Zoo as a “Guest Keeper/Intern” photographing the Zoo, the animals, the exhibits and most importantly, looking into the lives of the people who work there.I began this blog in 2008, not long before I left for the Zoo the first year I worked there and it became my journal of the time I spent there. Zoo keeping is not, as the Keepers themselves describe it: ”Bunny Hugging”. It is viciously tough work, and for the most part, it’s not about the animals, but the care, cleaning and feeding of them.

Almost two years. I have a busy schedule, but I try and post as often as I can.

It depends on what I’m currently doing. When I was working at the zoo, I was getting hundreds a day. When I came back home, it calmed down a bit. Now it’s nice and regular with well over a hundred on a consistent basis. I have a pretty specialized blog and it’s still very young!

Not really. I’ve gotten speaking engagements due to it and my work at “BIRD TALK.” But that’s not what my blog is about. Well not yet! But we’ll see.

People who have Parrots, who enjoy peeking into the life of a Flight Attendant, love good cooking, and a thrifty lifestyle might enjoy “Parrot Nation.” I also have adventures that take me to places like working as a Keeper at the Cincinnati Zoo. I have a lot of interests. My airline work takes me to some pretty interesting destinations and my avicultural writing career gets me adventures in the bird world that are fascinating.

I usually work about an hour or two a day on average. But that depends on what I am posting. If I’m running a contest, or working in the field, it’s far more. This doesn’t include taking photos or doing research.

It’s an honest look at the life and career of a Writer/Flight Attendant who happens to have three parrots and dual careers. It’s not a “Mommy Blog” so don’t expect any posts about kids and carpools. I’m single with no kids and I live in South Florida. My interests are birds and animals and my writing career gets me to places and doing things many people find interesting. I mean really, how many Bloggers out there talk about what it’s like to work with Penguins, or feed a pair of Andean Condors? Not too many! So it’s a departure from a lot of other blogs.

Blog often with clear intent on what you have to offer. Watch your spelling and grammar. Try and nail down a point of view or subject matter that is different from other blogs. Ask your readers for their opinion and feedback. Involve them. And be respectful of your readers.
