Weird in Edgewise- ONEWEIRDWORD

blogabout
I write about a topic near and dear to me: my life – as a mega-anxious peri-menopausal, feminist working mom, who loves cycling to the office, and living in this great city.

I am a writer and editor. And since I spend my weekdays writing for my clients, I developed a need for a place where I can say my own piece.

whystartblog
Roughly two years ago, I left the freelance life for fulltime employment – something I found terribly stressful. I started to think maybe my partner didn’t need to hear all of my vitriol at the end of each workday. And since a good number of people in my life over the years have said to me, “you’re weird, you know that?”, I wanted a place for my own weird little words. To get a weird in edgewise amidst all the noise out there.

Two years.

It varies quite wildly. I typically get 10 a day, but some topics get tons of hits. Usually I do my best to avoid misguided hits by using odd spellings.

income
No, no “monetization” for weird in edgewise.

The best way to answer that is to tell you who I hear from: mostly moms in their late 30s or early 40s. I’ve also heard from several 20somethings who are experiencing anxiety. A bit of a keyword in my blog.

howlongday
Days I blog, it’s typically an hour of writing and revising. Sometimes if I’m in a mood, I don’t even review it before I hit “post”, which is always embarrassing if I ever reread it. If I’m including photos, I take a bit more time to make them look nice.

If you’re at similar place in your life, and you’re experiencing a lot of joy and anxiety, and like to kvetch, but see the humour in the ridiculous, you might just find it nice to see there’s someone out there who thinks a bit like you do.

whatadvicebloggers
Blog-wise, I define success as getting a lot of enjoyment out of having a place to say your bit, and using it. If you feel like you have something to say (and I got this advice from another blogger as well as the Muppets): don’t worry if it’s not good enough for anyone else to hear, just sing – sing your song!
