Emergiblog is about my life and times as an emergency department nurse, discussing health care, nursing issues and a bit of rock and roll thrown in!

I’m a registered nurse in a hospital in the San Francisco Bay Area. Blogging quickly became a large part of my day soon after Emergiblog was launched in August of 2005. Since its inception, I have become a columnist for Nursing Jobs.org and the creator of “Change of Shift”, a nursing blog carnival that is bi-weekly. Change of Shift just celebrated its first anniversary.

My first introduction to blogging was through political blogs. In fact, I thought all blogs had to be political. I knew I wanted to write, but what did I know well enough to actually blog about? Bingo! Nursing! And Emergiblog was born.

On August 1, 2007, Emergiblog will be two years old.

I’ve averaged as high as the 600s and as low as the mid 300s - depends on links from carnivals and I’ve gotten a few links from some major bloggers that have driven traffic. On average I’d say I get about 400 a day.

There is a small income. I have a company who pays for ad space on the blog and I do the occasional review of other sites that nurses might find of interest. I didn’t start blogging to make money, so anything that does come in is gravy. I wish I could “blog” as my main income, though. I love it!

Anyone who is interested in nursing or health care. Nurses, doctors, allied health personnel, patients (and we are ALL patients in one way or another). In fact I love hearing the patient perspective as I think it helps me become a better nurse.

A minimum of three hours, more like five. It’s a huge part of my day - keeping links current, organizing the carnival, doing my other columns and posting on Emergiblog.

I think it’s both informative and fun. I blog on a lot of different topics related to health care. If you aren’t a health care provider you can get an idea of what goes on inside on the other side of the gurney and I have a huge link to other health bloggers. I like to think it’s an interesting place to visit!

Post, post, post! Get your blog into some carnivals that relate to what you are posting about! READ OTHER BLOGS and leave comments - that will drive folks to YOUR site as they want to see who is commenting! Spread the link-love: link to other blogs either in your sphere or blogs you just plain like! Don’t get discouraged, traffic will build up slowly over time. The more you post, the more likely you are to have readers find you!
