We are two friends who live just about as far apart as could be. Southern Ange is a Kiwi in Australia, and Ange of the North lives on the west coast of Canada. This is where we share our lives with each other.

Southern Ange is very busy with two sons and a husband; she always manages to get involved in school events and has large groups of enthusiastic friends who do interesting things. Ange of the North is a primary teacher, also with two sons (who can now drive themselves around) and a husband. We both enjoy photography and food!

We met a few years ago in Vancouver, and wanted a way to share our lives online when Southern Ange returned to the land Down Under. Inspired by the collaborative blog, 3191, by two far-apart friends, we decided to start our own. It helps us to stay in touch beyond emails!

We began in February, 2008.

Sigh. It fluctuates between hardly any and up to 50 or so. We’re definitely not famous! During the Winter Olympics, when Ange of the North was blogging about the Games, we had lots of regular visitors. When school became more demanding and posts were less frequent, activity dropped off.

No income; that’s not why we do it.

Probably people who are interested in the differences between north and south (everything is opposite!), people who like quirky little updates, kids, family life, see the humour in little things, and those who like friendship.

Zero to an hour. Maybe. Or more.

You should subscribe if you like friendship and the lighter side of living with a family and teaching children, with a dash of musing and introspection thrown in. And, of course, if you like experiencing life from someone else’s point of view.

Blog because you love it. Blog because you’re talking to someone – whoever it may be. Blog because you’re willing to honestly share a piece of yourself with others.

“The thoughts of an old time Huguenot in 21st century Virginia.” My blog is intended to be an edifying collection of devotional poetry and meditations, and observations on church history, focusing primarily on Puritan, Covenanter and Reformed Presbyterian sources.

I am a paralegal, and editor of the Matthew Poole Project, which is engaged in the translation of Poole’s Latin Synopsis Criticorum (Synopsis of Interpreters) into English, a collection of comments on the whole Bible, and aims to republish his other theological works.

This blog is a means for me to share edifying historical and theological material that I have come across in my personal studies with those who share similar interests.

I began blogging at the end of 2008, and have so far posted at least once on my blog every day since.

I am not sure exactly how many visitors view my blog each day. I believe it may be around 50 visitors per day.

I do not receive any income from my blog.

Those who enjoy Reformed literature, Christian poetry and devotional meditations may enjoy my blog.

I often spend a long time researching my posts before they are published. I have spent weeks preparing a single post. Other posts, which are brief quotes, may take a short time to prepare. On average, I spend probably at least 1-2 hours per day blogging.

My blog aims to edify, enrich and enlighten. I enjoy sharing bits of history that are often overlooked. I strive to research my historical posts thoroughly and find the original source of a quote or a stated fact. In this way, I hope to shed new light on old truths.

Determine the focus of your blog. Make it useful to others or, if your goal is more personal, to yourself; in other words, edifying and worth reading. Spend some time arriving at a preferred format and template. Set reasonable goals for your posting so that you don’t get burned out. Decide how much input you can handle from readers who submit comment.

Gravity & Light is largely a poetry blog, presenting the work of other poets and sometimes my own. I like to introduce the familiar and not-so-familiar writers. I hold this space for all readers/writers interested in the word and how it shapes and reflects our imagination. While I call this a poetry blog, I am not altogether comfortable with genre labeling. For me poetry & fiction often merge.

I teach poetry, fiction & writing at Santa Barbara City College.

I have a passion for language & the way it sounds & what it conjures. From a kid when I used to listen to my mother’s stories to my writing and re-telling those stories to my niece. This love for words has always been a part of either my conscious and/or unconscious life.

I’ve been working in this blog space about six years.

I used to keep count of visitors. At one time, I was clocking at least forty daily. But I’m not sure today–June 24, 2010.

My blog has spirit but no income.

Any reader/writer interested in words, in poetry, in storytelling, in language would hopefully be interested in Gravity & Light.

Time spent on the blog daily is irregular: some days, an hour, & other days, thirty minutes.

It’s not only interesting to read what’s posted but to explore some of the other blogs listed as favorites.

My advice for bloggers: Do it with a passion & do it often enough to have a presence!
