My blog is basically an outlet for my thoughts. One thing I really enjoy in life is writing, and I find it to be a great way to put things in words without just listing the things I do during the day. In my blog, I don’t hold back – if you have followed it from the beginning you would see that the last few months have been up and down. I like letting people know how I feel about things, about people.

I’m a student, so this is just something I do on the side in my free time. Overall I think of it as a job by posting daily and finding new things to write, but really it’s a hobby.

Basically I just ran out of paper to write on. My writing was in all different places and very easy to lose track of, so I started a blog to keep it all in one place. I also wanted to share with people some of the music I like.

I started it on November 27th in 2009. My goal is to keep it for a year!

I have around 18 followers, but not everyone comments every day. I like to think that people read it daily, but who knows. Although I’d like more followers, I am going to let people do what they want to do, not what I think they should do.

No, my blog is not profitable. I write because I want to write, not to sell anything. Obviously in terms of money it hasn’t been successful, but it’s not always about material things. Aside from that, I think it has been successful.

Probably other students. Although people older than me might think my writing is great, I think that because I truly write from the heart, that people only around my age will truly understand what it means or what I am going through at the time.

No more than an hour. I write in my journal, then post whatever I have written for the day on my blog. It doesn’t take long.

Because I’m honest, spontaneous, and insightful. I write what I think and nothing less. I always stay in touch with followers and love to hear what they think.

Be patient. My blog started out with me just writing for myself, and over the past few months I have accumulated more followers than I expected. And out of the blue, people I haven’t seen in years tell me they like it!
Do what you love, love what you do. If people say they don’t like it, then too bad. There are a million other people that do like it.

I write about what I cook (and then eat) with the intent of celebrating food. I try to write themed entries that give other people a new and helpful way to think about food–for example, “cooking for one” entries or different recipes that use the same key ingredient.

I pay the bills by substitute teaching (looking for something permanent). I work with middle school and high school students and love being around kids. I sub in everything, but mostly Special Ed., French, and English (my certification area). I am blessed to live and work in the same community that I grew up going to school in.

As for the subject of my blog, people often say I should pursue a career that would allow me to cook and practice hospitality. I don’t know if I would like it as a job. I really just enjoy a more casual approach.

I haven’t always blogged exclusively about food. I began a blog with different intent and focused mainly on knitting, faith, or just life events in general. Of course, that was in college when I wasn’t able to cook regularly. I still do blog about other topics from time to time (for example, meditations during Advent and Lent), but writing about food comes naturally to me. I also love including pictures. Food is beautiful.

I began blogging about four years ago, when I was still in college. This has been a primarily “food blog” for about a year.

I really have no idea. Probably not many. I don’t update with great frequency. I’d like to think that people out there are reading what I write, but other than family members and a few friends, who knows? I’d love to get comments if you do read, and I would even be open to blogging about the types of food you request.

No. This idea has never occurred to me.

I don’t think you have to be a dedicated “foodie” to enjoy my blog (I hope). I try to be realistic. Occasionally my posts are a little esoteric about food, but mostly I write about things that are quick to make and still delicious. I also write about different aspects of food that inspire me, so I guess you might enjoy my blog if you want to be inspired in some way.

I don’t blog every day. I probably could blog more than I do, and am trying to more. I would say my posts take an average of 30 minutes, give or take.

I think my blog has good balance. If a recipe is easy, I share it. If I make something a little more difficult, I just talk about the process and why I’m excited about that particular food. My blog isn’t just about food. It’s about living. And I almost always include photos.

I’m not sure how to define blogging “success”. I would say one of my biggest successes is taking pictures of food that I make so I have the option to blog about it if I feel so inspired.

Blogging is definitely not my job. In fact I have a strict no-ad policy on my blog so I don’t make a penny from it.

Basically, because I was bored. I started this blog shortly after moving from the UK to the US, and I was stuck with an ancient machine with crappy dial-up. It was basically just something to entertain myself with.

I write my first post in April of 2005, so just over six years.

It varies, but usually around 100-300. Not bad for a personal blog on no particular topic. My record is about 4000 hits in a single day when Wil Wheaton linked to a review I did of one of his books.

No, my blog doesn’t have an income. It’s not a business venture, it’s writing for writing’s sake. With a readership as small as mine, ‘monetizing’ the blog by putting up ads would just annoy my readers and only make me a few dollars a month, it’s not worth it.

It’s hard to say. I have readers and regular commenters from all ages and walks of life.

Again, it’s hard to say. Sometimes I’ll write a post that takes five minutes, other days I’ll spend a couple of hours if I’m talking about a complex topic.

If I average it out, I’d have to say maybe 30 mins to an hour a day.

Because you might like it? I don’t know, I think I’m mildly entertaining.

Content is the key. It doesn’t matter how many widgets you have, how many flashy gadgets…or how many other people’s blogs you spam with “Nice blog, you should read mine” comments. If you don’t have interesting content, you’re not going to keep any readers. It’s that simple.

I’ve lost count of the number of heavily ‘marketed’ blogs I’ve seen that have a single one paragraph post.
